Our biodiversity keeps our environment alive which in turn provides free environmental services to our agriculture and society. These are services such as water filtration, oxygen production, carbon storage, salt reduction, soil regeneration, and outdoor recreation.
As our civilisation has evolved, many of us have become isolated and afraid of our environment and wildlife. Although we should have some caution with wild animals, being isolated from them and their environment makes it easy for them to be devalued.
Without a healthy biodiversity, our ecosystems will collapse and the community will struggle to survive.
